The palatial estate sits on a massive waterfront property in Palm Beach, Florida. Capone bought the house back in the Prohibition days of 1928, when he was at the height of his power. He died there nearly twenty years later. The property_s changed hands a few times since. The most recent owner spent a lot of cash restoring it to its former glory. It can be all yours for just under ten million dollars.If the new name is any indication, you_ll definitely want to visit Bikinis, Texas. _Breastaurant_ mogul Doug Guller recently bought the deserted Texas town of Bankersmith on Craigslist - yes, apparently you can buy towns there too - and renamed it after his growing restaurant chain, Bikinis. No word on what the property cost him, but Guller says he plans on hosting massive parties and festivals in the former ghost town. In fact, Guller claims that he_ll turn Bikinis into a world class destination. He_s already got OUR attentionPick a song any song - I bet Stanley the Piano can play it The old-timey instrument was given a techno-twist at a recent Block Party in Seattle. Stanley was outfitted with a computer that was able to read its own Twitter feed. Then, people from all over the world were asked to send song requests to @StanleyPiano. Stanley_s computer has a huge database of songs for him to play, and he_s always learning new ones. He was a huge hit at the block party and now his creators are hoping for a world tour. Erica Stevens is inside the Naked Newsroom with the story.Thanks you two Flip flops - we_ve almost all got _em, and chances are, you either HAVE or have HEARD of the popular brand Havaianas. They_re Brazilian and celebrating 50 years in business. Last year alone 210 million pairs were sold worldwide Everyone from Hollywood A-listers to star athletes are seen wearing them these days. And just like Naked News, Havaianas is often imitated but NEVER duplicated Next up, it used to be that 21 was viewed as the age of adulthood, but oh how the times have changed my friends. A study by Australian researchers has found that most young people don_t feel like they_ve reached adulthood until they_re AT LEAST 30. Rather than settling down and starting a family, people in their twenties are spending more of their time traveling and partying. Only 38 percent of those surveyed felt they_d reached maturity at age 21. So 30 is the new 21. Which is why this year I_m celebrating my THIRD 29th birthday, thank you very much. And if you think all the crap they play on the radio these days sounds the same, well, turns out you_re probably right Research published in a journal called Scientific Reports shows that today_s music is louder than the hits from the fifties and sixties and uses fewer variations in chords and melodies. Half a million rock, pop, and hip hop songs between 1955 and 2010 were run through a complex computer program for the results. Now you have scientific proof that they just don_t make music like they used to. Magnotta was the subject of an international manhunt after he allegedly murdered a Chinese student, dismembered him, and mailed parts of the body to several targets, including Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper.2. MARINA) Former Egyptian president HOSE-nee moo-BAR-ick has taken a turn for the worse in a Cairo hospital. Reports say he_s had several strokes and is in critical condition on life support. There have even been reports he was clinically dead, but they_ve since been refuted. LAURA) Mubarak was sentenced to life in prison earlier this month for his role in the deaths of Egyptian protesters. Meanwhile, both candidates in Egypt_s first truly democratic elections are claiming victory, while the military has claimed new powers for itself. Official election results are due later this week.3. MARINA) Most people think slavery is dead, but according to a report by the US State Department, that_s FAR from the case. Its findings show 42-thousand people last year were forced into labor, prostitution, or armed conflict. That_s an increase of 9-thousand over the PREVIOUS 12 months. And THAT_S just the tip of the iceberg.LAURA) Those were just the instances of human trafficking that were IDENTIFIED. The State Department estimates that 800-THOUSAND people were trafficked across borders for nefarious purposes. RW) Hello everyone, I_m RW and you_re watching Naked News Here are today_s top stories. RW) US President Barack Obama is set to unveil his 2013 budget proposal, and it_s expected that it will cause another round of political posturing. Obama and the Democrats are advocating a budget that balances both spending cuts and increased taxes on the wealthy. However, the opposition Republicans will likely argue for even deeper spending cuts along with a DECREASE in taxes. Obama_s budget projects an overall deficit cut of 5-point-5 percent, from 1-point-3 trillion in 2012 to 901-billion by the end of 2013.RW) On the international front, it doesn_t look like the volatile situation in Syria will be improving anytime soon. The Syrian government has categorically rejected an Arab League resolution to bring peace to the region. Eila Adams has been tracking the latest developments from Syria and joins us now with an update. What_s happening there Eila?EA) Rachelle, the resolution would have called for a joint UN-Arab peacekeeping mission in Syria to end nearly a year of bloodshed. Syrian officials dismissed the plan, saying that it reflects hysteria on the parts of the countries involved. While the EU praised the proposal, Russia voiced some concerns. They say that the violence has to end before peacekeepers are sent into the beleaguered country. Despite the fact that Russia is now willing to hear details about an international agreement, it will be too late for some Syrians. Fighting continues, unabated. EA) And in Greece, lawmakers voted to approve yet another round of austerity measures in a desperate bid for a eurozone bailout. Naturally, this didn_t sit well with protesters in Athens. Over 40 buildings were set on fire, a number of stores were looted and many cars were overturned and destroyed. 25 protesters and 40 police officers were injured in the riots. The austerity measures include deep cuts to government spending, including the laying off of thousands more employees as well as big cuts in wages, and pensions. The Greek government hopes the agreement will prompt eurozone lenders to approve the badly-needed 172-billion dollar bailout Rachelle.RW) I read a story that compared the size of the cuts in Greece, to the US, and it said it would be like the US government laying off 5 million employees. EA) Exactly, and many Greeks don_t think the belt tightening will even work so they_re wondering what the whole point of it all is.RW) I don_t think anyone really wants to find out what would happen if they defaulted on their debt, so let_s hope this latest agreement brings them closer to resolving their finances. RW) The United States and Afghanistan have finalized a long-delayed strategic pact that will continue to see the countries work together beyond 2014. Although combat operations will be reduced to a skeleton crew by 2014, U.S. forces are expected to remain indefinitely in the country, with a focus on military training and government assistance programs. The draft was hammered out by U.S. Ambassador Ryan Crocker and Afghan National Security Adviser Rangin Dadfar Spanta ran-GHEEN dad-FAHR SPEHN-tah. Once officially completed, it will be signed by both countries_ presidents. Given their strained diplomatic relationships in recent months, the agreement is considered a welcome boost to the U.S.-Afghanistan relationship. And according to officials in a New Jersey borough, it_s dangerous PP) Welcome to the newsroom everyone1. RW) If you ever find yourself in Fort Lee New Jersey and want to use your cell phone, better not do it while you_re crossing the street Police officers there have started issuing tickets to anyone found jaywalking and texting. PP) Officials say that pedestrians on their phones aren_t paying attention to their surroundings, which has led to some unfortunate results. Residents say they_ll pay the fine if they get ticketed, but that it won_t keep them from texting while riding the heel-toe express. 2. RW) Cell phones are also causing problems across the bridge in New York City. New stats from 9-1-1 show that over 4 million calls in 2010 were accidental. That_s a lot of pocket dialing That means that more than a third of all calls to the emergency hotline were by mistake. PP) Not only are the butt calls clogging up phone lines, but they_re also creating false impressions of the job performance of 911 operators. Having so many short calls brings down the average response time. The city_s currently investing 2 billion in revamping its 911 phone system, but they don_t have any solution for all the accidental calls. 3. RW) Here_s a reason to cry over spilt milk A study from the University of Edinburgh says that the greenhouse gases from discarded milk in the UK are just as harmful to the environment as 20-thousand car engines 360-thousand tonnes of milk is wasted in the UK every year.PP) But dairy isn_t the only culprit here. The study also found that if western countries reduced their chicken consumption to the levels of a country like Japan, the reduction in harmful nitrous oxide would be equivalent to removing 10 MILLION cars from the planet. And now you know RachelleRW) Whitney and Kat are always trying to get me to go vegan, and hearing news like this has me convinced PP) (rolls eyes) Yeah yeah, I_ll believe that when I see it. Hey Erica, I understand there are some new revelations regarding who_s to blame for the botched Fast and Furious operation.That_s right Eila. The US Justice Department has singled out 14 people for possible disciplinary action. But the biggest news here is that they didn_t fry the BIGGEST fish in this pond.You mean Attorney General Eric Holder, of course.Exactly It looks like he_s getting off scott-free. Here_s the story Eila. Welcome to the newsroom everyone After a 19 month investigation, the US justice department has released a 471-page report on Operation Fast and Furious. That_s where US agents lost track of hundreds of illegal firearms that crossed the border into Mexico. They were eventually linked to the shooting death of an American border guard in 2010. While US Attorney General Eric Holder was held in contempt in June for refusing to give up sensitive documents relating to the operation, the investigation concluded that Holder didn_t know about the questionable tactics being used. And although 14 people have been singled out for disciplinary action, no criminal charges have been laid. Regional tensions between Japan and China over a chain of disputed islands in the East China Sea were ratcheted up a notch on Wednesday. China_s next leader, Xi Jinping (SHE JIN-PING), warned that Japan should rein in its behaviour and stop undermining China_s sovereignty. His comments fanned the flames of anger in China, where violent protests across the country have seen Japanese shops and businesses vandalized. Riot police lined the streets of Beijing, where thousands of protesters gathered outside the Japanese embassy. Both countries have laid claim to the islands, and concerns of a potential naval conflict are rising. Bad news for proponents of President Obama_s health care bill. It_s now estimated that nearly 6 million Americans will face a tax penalty for not getting health insurance. According to the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office, that_s higher than their previous estimate of 4 million people. That penalty amounts to around 12-hundred dollars per uninsured person come 2016. Under Obamacare, every legal resident of the US will be required to have health insurance or pay a tax penalty, although the poorest Americans and those with religious objections will be exempt Eila?That doesn_t sound like very good news for Obama does it. It sure doesn_t. One prominent critic n Dave Camp, the head of the House Committee on Ways and Means, is saying it_s an example of the bad news and broken promises of Obamacare.I have a feeling this number is going to be thrown around a LOT during the next couple of months. Three Iranian nationals have been arrested after accidentally setting off explosives at a hideout in central Bangkok. Thai authorities believe the men were plotting an assassination attempt on two Israeli diplomats. Israel, meanwhile, is adamant the Iranian government is behind the assassination attempt. The suspects face charges that include possession of explosive devices and attempted murder. Israel vows to retaliate. He_s facing 11 charges, including conspiracy to set up a terrorist training camp in Oregon. He_s also accused of hostage taking and trying to incite a holy war in Afghanistan. Hamza was extradited from the UK last week along with two men accused in the 1998 embassy bombings in Kenya and Tanzania. Hamza appeared in court without the prosthetic hook he uses as a hand, which was confiscated by US authorites. His trial will start in August 2013.There has been a surprising shift in American religious demographics. The Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life is reporting that Protestants are no longer the majority in the United States. Let_s go now to Eila Adams who_s been following this story.Vic, according to Pew, in the past 5 years the number of Protestants in the US has declined from 53-percent to 48-percent. Further evidence of the decline in Protestants can be seen in the country_s government - there are no Protestants currently on the Supreme Court, and only one of the 4 people on the Presidential tickets - President Obama - is a Protestant. It_s still the largest religious group in America, followed by Catholicism. But the fastest growing group are unaffiliated. Nearly 20-percent of Americans do not identify themselves with any religious group at all. Vic, these numbers are based on a telephone poll of nearly 3000 people. Back to the unaffiliated - that would include Atheists, right?That_s part of it. Here_s the story. It_s officially OVER The NFL and the referees_ union have reached a tentative eight-year deal. The new agreement will see the average salary for officials rise from 149-thousand dollars a year to 173-thousand in 2013. Officials will also get to keep their current pension plan, which was originally a major sticking point in negotiations.The union will ratify the deal over the weekend in Dallas. It will require approval from 51-percent of its 121 members. But that_s just a formality. The regular officiating crews will be back in action on Thursday night for the Cleveland-Baltimore game.In other news, a major figure in the US military is facing a number of charges that include sexual misconduct. Brigadier General Jeffrey Sinclair allegedly violated a number of military laws, the most glaring of which being forcible sodomy. Sinclair is the former commander of the Army_s 82nd Airborne Division, one of the most highly-decorated and revered units in the military.Sinclair allegedly had numerous inappropriate relationships with female colleagues during his time in Afghanistan. He was relieved of duty there in May and has since been stationed at Fort Bragg in North Carolina. Sinclair, a 27-year veteran, now faces the military equivalent of a grand jury. The presiding judge will determine whether he will face court martial on the charges. Mexican security forces claim they_ve captured yet another drug lord. Ivan Velazquez Caballero, aka El Taliban and Z-50 n had been a commander with the notorious Zetas drug gang. Velazquez was known for his brutality, and controlled some of the most important drug routes between the US and Mexico. He had a reward of 2-point-3 million dollars for his capture. Let_s jump right into today_s headlines.Barack Obama came out swinging against Republican nominee Mitt Romney in Tuesday night_s hotly-anticipated US presidential debate. In an about-face from their previous match-up, the President spent much of the ninety minutes on the offensive, challenging his opponent on the economy, foreign policy, and women_s issues. Marina Valmont was taking notes and joins us now with her analysis. Thanks, Kat. Although it certainly wasn_t a trouncing, most analysts believe Obama scored a clear victory over the former Massachusetts Governor. One particularly strong exchange had the president taking Romney to task for implying he used last month_s embassy attack in Libya for political gain. For his part, Governor Romney attempted to hammer away at the President over the economy and America_s reliance on foreign oil. All in all it was a contentious debate with each candidate doing what needed to be done to energize their base. The last of the three presidential debates is set for Monday, October 22nd in Boca Raton, Florida and will focus on foreign policy. Kat? So how would you describe the mood in the Obama camp today? Very pleased Kat. More than anything they were looking to change the narrative of the past couple of weeks and slow down Romney_s momentum. And the President_s team feels he was able to pull this off. The next one should be a wild one, thanks Marina. In health news, U.S. investigators have raided a Massachusetts drug company that_s been linked to a recent outbreak of fungal meningitis. The move comes after 200 people in 15 U.S. states were hit with the illness as a result of contaminated pharmaceutical products. The FDA believes the outbreak stemmed from sterility issues at the New England Compounding Center in Boston. As a safety precaution, the FDA is urging doctors to avoid prescribing any of the company_s products, specifically its line of heart drugs and steroids. Also in the New England area, the state of Maine fell victim to a rather unusual event on Tuesday: an earthquake Yes, we kid you not. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, it registered 4.6 on the Richter scale. Eila Adams has the story. Kat, when you think earthquakes, the northeastern state of Maine doesn_t typically come to mind. But sure enough, the southern area of the state was rattled Tuesday night, with tremors felt as far away as Massachusetts, Connecticut and New York. And although there were no reported injuries, residents reported a loud bang, followed by several seconds of shaking. In fact, many immediately assumed their furnaces had blown up. As Erica just mentioned, these are the very first free elections the country has ever held in it_s 5000 years of existence. 30 thousand volunteers are helping the voting process, which is taking place on Wednesday and Thursday. If no clear winner emerges, a run off election will be held on June 16 and 17. ES) There are roughly a dozen candidates in the running and surprisingly, many voters are backing Mubarak veterans in the hope that they can restore stability in a country besieged with rioting, rising crime, and a failing economy. Others are throwing their support behind the Muslim Brotherhood - which worries some who fear a nation run under strict Islamic law. VS) Elsewhere in the middle east, western officials are meeting with Iran once again over their nuclear program. This is a follow-up after last month_s negotiations between Iran and six countries over their controversial ambitions. An official in Baghdad, where the talks are taking place, seems cautiously optimistic. He says that Iran is being offered confidence-building and reciprocal proposals in order to reach a deal.ES) Thus far, the West has reacted with much stricter measures, including a string of tough sanctions. This all comes a day after the International Atomic Energy Agency announced that they expect to come to a deal with Tehran to allow broader inspections of their nuclear facility. Iran insists their nuclear program is for peaceful purposes.VS) Regulators are taking a good, long look at financial services company Morgan Stanley - the company that underwrote Facebook_s Initial Public Offering. It_s being reported that a Morgan Stanley analyst reduced his revenue projections ahead of the IPO. He then shared that information with several key investors.ES) The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority is now looking into concerns that some information should have been disseminated more widely, rather than to just a few key investors. The IPO hasn_t been smooth for the Social Network. Since launching on the Nasdaq last Friday, shares have dropped from 38 dollars to 31 dollars. Welcome to Naked News, I_m Victoria Sinclair. Our coverage today begins in the US, with the latest on the deadly Meningitis outbreak that_s affected 105 people across the country. According to the Centers for Disease Control, eight are dead and ninety-seven are sick, but thousands more could be affected. The outbreak has been linked to tainted steroid shots used to treat back pain that were produced at a medical center in Massachusetts. Nationwide up to 13-thousand people may have been exposed to the disease. But because the incubation period takes up to a month, it will be weeks before patients know if they_ve been infected. We_ll turn our attention further south now, where Mexican authorities say they MAY have scored one of their biggest victories in the war on drugs to date. There is strong evidence to suggest that Mexican marines have killed the leader of one of the country_s most brutal drug cartels. Erica Stevens joins us now with the full story.Vic, it_s believed that Heriberto The Executioner Lazcano was killed Sunday in a firefight with marines in northern Mexico. Lazcano, is the leader of the powerful Zetas drug cartel, which has a reputation for extreme violence. Lazcano is one of Mexico_s most wanted criminals, and the US government had even placed a 5 million dollar bounty on his head. Lazcano is a former soldier, and although initial forensic tests indicate that authorities have their man, further results will be needed for confirmation. Sounds like one pretty tough customer. And certainly a feat President Felipe Calderon can hang his hat on if it_s confirmed.Oh absolutely. It would be Calderon_s biggest victory since he started the military assault on drug cartels six years ago. We_ll just have to wait and see. Now I know you_ve ALSO been keeping an eye on another story for us - the announcement of two of this year_s Nobel Prize winners.That I have Vic, the prize for physics is being shared by an American and a Frenchman. The pair have been awarded the prestigious Nobel Prize for their ground-breaking quantum optics work, which deals with basic units of light and matter. David Wineland and Serge Haroche will split the 1-point-2 million dollar top prize. It_s believed their work could have a huge impact on light-based clocks and desktop computing. As you said, the site_s just debuted a HUGE re-design and at first glance, the new interface looks sleek. They_re taking a minimalist approach, which looks nice considering how cluttered and garish user pages USED to look. They also seem to be embracing the tiled look that Windows is favoring these days. A group led by Timberlake recently bought the social network for 35 million dollars n far less than the 580 million that NewsCorp bought it for in 2005.In other news, long after being cancelled, failed Fox quiz show Million Dollar Money Drop is still causing controversy. A couple is suing producers Endemol, saying that they gave a correct answer that was ruled wrong Andrew and Patricia Murray lost 580-thousand dollars when they gambled that the worldis most common computer password was password. Producers claimed the CORRECT answer was 123456, which they seemingly based on just one isolated report. The couple is suing to get that money back plus damages. VS) I_m Victoria Sinclair, welcome to Naked News. Here_s what_s making headlines today. The ongoing violence in Syria has now claimed two very high profile victims. Sunday Times of London reporter Marie Colvin and award winning French photographer Remi Ochlik (AWTCH-lik) were killed in the latest round of shelling by Syrian government forces in the city of Homs. Colvin was a veteran reporter from New York who had covered last year_s civil war in Libya. In an on-air interview with CNN just the night before, she said that the conflict in Syria was the worse she_d ever seen. At least 40 people were killed during Tuesday_s clashes in Homs. The Red Cross has asked for a temporary break in fighting to get medical and food supplies to civilians trapped in the crossfire.Elsewhere in the region, a group of UN nuclear officials have left Iran after a highly-publicized visit to inspect the country_s controversial nuclear program. And unfortunately, after two days of intensive talks with Iranian authorities, the group failed to reach an agreement on how to verify the country_s nuclear facilities. We_re joined now by Eila Adams for the story. EA) Vic, International Atomic Energy Agency experts say they could not come to terms on a number of unresolved issues surrounding Iran_s nuclear program. Most notably, Tehran blocked them from visiting a military base in Parchin, suspected of being a test site for explosives related to nuclear weapons. Iran_s envoy to the IAEA told state media that the negotiations had involved cooperation and mutual understanding. Another round of talks is expected in the near future. In other news, Olympic organizers in London are taking no chances when it comes to possible terrorist scenarios at the upcoming games. On Wednesday more than 25-hundred rescue workers took part in a simulated attack exercise on the subway system in central London. The drills were held at the disused Aldwych (AWLD-witch) Station on Surrey Street, with police and firefighters escorting out mock casualties. Officials say the exercise is meant to build confidence in on-site responders and test the decision-making skills of senior management. Needless to say Vic it was quite a scene.VS) (with a smile) So no need for alarm then if you happened to see a few thousand police in the middle of London on Wednesday.EA) Not at all Authorities want to assure everyone that they_re leaving NOTHING to chance. In fact the Olympic security budget was doubled in December to 866 million.VS) Well they_ve sold nearly nine million tickets and the eyes of the world will be upon them. Each country has been asked to create a contingency plan in the event that Greece exits the single currency. In a document obtained by Reuters (ROY-turs), officials urge a quote unquote amiable divorce between Greece and the rest of the Euro zone countries, should the Greeks vote to shun harsh EU austerity measures and try their luck with their own currency. If they do leave, the EU and the IMF will consider giving them 60 billion dollars to help ease the transition. The second Greek election in two months is scheduled for June seventeenth. Staying in Europe, just days after NATO announced its European missile defense shield had achieved interim operational capability, Russia has raised eyebrows by unveiling a secretive new weapon designed specifically to penetrate the barrier. It_s a move that can only heighten tensions between Russia and the US. For a more detailed look at the developments, we_ll turn things over to Eila Adams. EA) Vic, on Wednesday Russia successfully test-fired a missile, fitted with a dummy warhead, that traveled nearly 4-thousand miles It is an aggressive response to the US-led missile shield system in Europe, which NATO claims is being used to protect against attacks from rogue states such as Iran. However Russia is unhappy with the shield and says it changes the balance of military power in the region. Russia has already threatened to turn their missiles on European NATO sites.And Vic, the second named tropical storm of the East Pacific hurricane season is now a hurricane. Bud formed off the southwestern coast of Mexico early Thursday and is now considered a category 1 storm. It_s packing 90 mile per hour winds and is expected to grow much stronger over the next 24 hours. The National Hurricane Center in Miami expects Bud to then weaken as it approaches land late Friday. Back to you.VS) Bud sounds pretty harmless for now Eila, but with the hurricane season officially getting under way June 1, should we expect a lot more storms like this? EA) Actually, the concensus is NO. Forcasters are calling for a lighter then usual storm season with 12 named storms and 7 becoming hurricanes. This is your News Off The Top.British authorities have charged two ex-News of the World editors - Rupert Murdoch protege Rebekah Brooks and here_s the big one, David Coulson, the former aid to British PM, David Cameron, along with six others. They_ve all been charged for their roles in intercepting the communications of over 600 people.A list of the alleged victims will be released shortly, but it is thought to include big name stars such as Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, Wayne Rooney, and Sir Paul McCartney. Five other senior tabloid journalists are being charged, as well as a private investigator whose detailed notes have been at the center of the scandal from day one.In other news today, an Afghan police commander and 13 junior officers have defected to join forces with the Taliban. This was in the western province of Farah, one of the most violent areas of the region. The men took valuable equipment and heavy weaponry - including rocket-propelled grenades, machine guns, and a number of US-made armoured Humvees - with them. Intelligence officials say the police commander poisoned seven policemen who refused to defect. Over the past few years, Afghan forces had driven Taliban insurgents out of the area. But local sources say the terrorist group is regaining its foothold there. And we_ll finish up your first look at the headlines, stateside. American authorities have charged a young man with two counts of arson in connection to a fire that caused 400 MILLION dollars worth of damage to a US Navy submarine. 24-year old Casey James Fury is suspected of setting the blaze last May, and then attempting to spark a second fire last month.Fury was contracted as a painter and sandblaster aboard the USS Miami while it was docked for a major overhaul at a naval shipyard in Maine. Though he initially denied the charges, Fury later admitted to starting the fires. He told investigators he did it because he wanted to get out of work. If convicted of either charge he could face life behind bars Erica.I_d say he_s in BIIIIG trouble. What ever happened to calling in sick? Seriously. Burning your place of employment down? She_s been following the story of a brutal rampage in Afghanistan that has shocked the world. What_s going on Natasha?NO) It_s not a pretty picture Eila. 16 innocent Afghans are dead including women and children after an experienced US soldier went house to house on a shooting spree. EA) And do we know WHY this happened? NO) Not yet, many of the details are still unknown but what we DO know is that this was the soldiers 4th tour of duty and for some reason, he snapped. EA) And there are some serious ramifications aren_t there?NO) That_s right, president Hamid Karzai (haw-MIHD kahr-Z-EYE) has weighed in as have the Taliban. Here_s the latest Eila.NO) US officials are trying to find a motive after an American soldier went on a bloody house-to-house rampage, killing 16 civilians. Not much is known about the alleged shooter so far, other than the fact that he_s an Army Staff Sargeant who was apparently acting alone and turned himself in. The sergeant, in his mid-30s, had served several tours of duty in Iraq, but was new to Afghanistan. The Taliban took no time to call out American forces as sick-minded savages and swore revenge for the killings. Afghan president Hamid Karzai (haw-MIHD kahr-Z-EYE) called the massacre unforgivable. This comes just weeks after riots erupted over the burning of Korans by U.S. troops.In other news from the rergion, former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan (KOH-fee ANN-nan) says he_s optimistic that a peace deal can be made in Syria. This despite 2 days of talks with Syrian president Bashar al-Assad (bah-SHAHR ahl AH-sahd) that failed to yield any results. After the meetings, Annan said that finding a peace process would be difficult, but he held out hope. Complicating the issue in Syria is the fact that many opposition leaders refuse to open a dialogue with al-Assad, claiming he_s a war criminal. They also claim that any meetings that he agrees to are simply to buy time before any outside intervention takes place.Elsewhere in the Middle East, for a fourth straight day, Israeli airstrikes pounded the Gaza strip, injuring at least 40 people. Israel says they_re targeting rocket launching sites as more than one-hundred have been fired from Gaza since Friday. It_s the most intense fighting in the region in months, forcing 500-thousand Israelis into shelters. Schools have also been closed as a precaution Eila. EA) Between this, Syria, Iran and Afghanistan, that area of the world is pretty scary these days. NO) You_re right and the unfortunate part is that there doesn_t seem to be any end in site in ANY of the conflicts. Opponents to the bill compare it to tyranny, saying it punishes people for what they do in their own homes. Conservative radio show host Glenn Beck is putting his money where his big mouth is by launching a brand new fashion line. Beck_s always been a loud and proud patriot, so it_s no surprise his new denim line is produced strictly in the good ol_ US of A. Beck says he was fed up with watching jean manufacturers packing up to head overseas, and so he decided to do something about it. His jeans are called 1791 Supply and Co, since, fittingly, that_s the year the Bill of Rights was added to the constitution. But Beck_s brand of denim freedom doesn_t come cheap. The jeans sell for 130 dollarsHere_s an example of what can happen to you if you have too much money and WAY too much free time on your hands. An American venture called The Falcon Project has announced that it will use a 45 foot airship to track, wait for it... BIGFOOT. Oh yes my friends, the truth is out there, and the Aurora Mk 2 Airship will find it... eventually. At least that_s the hope of gold dredger and Falcon Project founder William Barnes. Barnes claims to have seen Bigfoot in 1997. The helium airship will use thermal imaging and high res cameras over the California mountains to locate the hairy beast. Senior anchor Victoria Sinclair has been following the latest developments and joins us now for the story. I don_t think anyone was surprised by this were they Vic? VS) Not at all Eila but ONE thing that DID surprise people was that Nine of the 75 charged are police officers. The charges vary from murder to negligence in connection to the deadly Port Said (sy-EED) riots that erupted on February first. According to the chief prosecutor_s office, the violence was planned ahead of time, with many fans bringing knives, sticks, and other weapons to the stadium. The riot started after the final whistle of a game between Port Said_s club and a team from Cairo. The home crowd stormed the field, attacking the visiting team_s fans and players. In the aftermath, police were widely accused of doing little to curb the violence. In other news today, British paper, The Guardian, has obtained thousands of emails purportedly from the private email account of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad (ba-SHAR al ah-SAHD). The documents show that Assad got advice from Iran on how to deal with the uprising in his country. The President was advised to use violent language in his public addresses and tout the country_s military prowess. In other exchanges, Assad jokes about promises he made for reform, and is given detailed information about the whereabouts of illegal western reporters working within Syrian borders. And a former Goldman Sachs executive resigned in spectacular fashion. Instead of handing his bosses a letter, Greg Smith opted to have his resignation letter published as an op-ed piece in the New York Times - and boy oh boy, did he ever GIVE it to his former colleagues. In his letter, Smith called the company toxic, and alleged that they callously ripped their clients off - clients he says that were referred to as Muppets. Goldman executives and spokespeople refuted these claims, but not before the piece went viral on the Internet. Here_s the latest.US President Barack Obama is imposing even stricter sanctions against Iran. They_re aimed at Iran_s energy sector, as well as several financial institutions. The country is being accused of getting around existing sanctions by getting paid for oil with precious metals, or through bartering. These new sanctions would discourage that practice.Obama says he_s still committed to coming to a diplomatic solution when it comes to dealing with Iran, but the ball is in their court to respect global demands. At the center of the issue is Iran_s nuclear program, which they insist is simply for energy purposes and not for creating weapons n a position most other countries aren_t buying.In Oslo Norway, there was a bomb scare that resulted in a huge chunk of the city being evacuated. A US Embassy vehicle was spotted with a suspicious-looking device attached to it. Police quickly cordoned off a 500 yard area around the embassy, evacuated buildings, and shut down most transportation including bus and rail lines.It was later determined that the so-called bomb was a training device which had been inadvertently left on the vehicle. Police are still reeling from criticism that they didn_t act quickly enough after Anders Behring Breivik_s deadly bombing and killing spree last year.Mexico_s war on drug cartels is continuing, with several key MILITARY officials being hit with criminal charges 3 Generals and a Lieutenant Colonel were arrested in May, and have now been slapped with formal charges. All 4 are accused of organized crime to further drug-trafficking.It_s suspected that the officers played major roles in either aiding or protecting the notorious Beltran Leyva cartel. Most shocking is the high-ranking positions they held in the military n one of the accused once served as Mexico_s assistant defense secretary. It_s another black eye for education in America as 30,000 Chicago teachers have gone on strike. Their union had negotiated with school officials for 10 months, but they weren_t able to come to an agreement. This is Chicago_s first teacher strike in 25 years. As a result, police are beefing up their operations as 400-thousand students have nowhere to go. Some schools and community organizations are opening the doors in order to provide some kind of relief for frazzled parents.Three separate polls after the Democratic National Convention show that President Obama_s popularity has risen slightly since the big event. According to a Rasmussen poll, Obama has a 2 point lead over Mitt Romney n 46 to 44 percent. That same poll had Romney with a 3 point lead just last week. However, experts warn that Obama shouldn_t start doing victory laps just yet. History has shown that post-convention bumps almost always vanish, meaning that this remains anybody_s race. And the Obama campaign got even more positive news. For the first time in months, they_ve managed to raise more money than the Republicans. According to Obama campaign manager Jim Messina, in August they managed to collect 114 million dollars, versus 111 million for the Romney camp. Over a million people donated to the re-election campaign last month alone. In a sign of grass-roots support for the President, 98-percent of those donations were under 250 dollars, with an average of 58 dollars each. We_ll be right back.

Alexis Tsipras (ah-LEHK-sees SEEP-rahs), the leader of the Syriza (SIH-reez-ah) bloc, will be meeting with 2 PRO-bailout parties to see if he can come to an agreement. If they canit by end of day Thursday, the country will have to go to the polls again within weeks. Tsipras has been a vocal opponent of the bailout deal with the EU and IMF, calling the terms ìbarbarici.A little closer to home in North Carolina Peyton, a controversial constitutional amendment has passed that effectively BANS same-sex marriage and civil unions Gay marriage was already illegal in the state, but this amendment n known as ìamendment onei n cements the ruling firmly in the state_s constitution. Roughly 61 percent of the voters cast ballots in favor of the ban. Itis a blow to same-sex couples, as it voids all other forms of civil unions and domestic partnerships. This vote has re-ignited debate over the issue, which is sure to be discussed at length in an election year. Interestingly enough Peyton, Vice President Joe Biden recently made comments in FAVOR of gay marriage. PP) You mentioned Biden, but not President Obama. Has he weighed in yet?NO) Not really. They_re leading us off with the fall out to a suspected INSIDER attack on American troops in Afghanistan. What_s the latest Vic. Natasha, the majority of joint US-Afghan military operations have been suspended indefinitely. This follows Sunday_s attack, which killed four US troops. Officials think it was an inside job. They say 51 NATO soldiers have been killed in what they refer to as blue-on-green attacks, this year alone. A senior official says the US can no longer trust Afghan personnel.Vic, according to sources close to the situation, the suspension could last for three days or three months. Last May, the US announced that 23-thousand troops would be pulled out of Afghanistan by the end of summer, leaving full responsibility to Afghan troops by the end of 2014. Whether or not these new strains on the relationship affects that process remains to be seen. A massive manhunt is currently underway in Mexico for over 130 inmates who escaped from prison through a large tunnel near the country_s shared border with the US. Prisoners started the tunnel in the jail_s carpentry workshop, and then cut through the perimeter fence. Texas border guards have been put on alert in case any of the fugitives try to flee to the US.Mexican officials say the tunnel was over 4 feet wide and 23 feet long. There are also suspicions that corrupt jail guards helped spring the prisoners loose. Many of those on the lam have ties to the country_s notoriously drug cartels. The state government is offering a reward of over 15-thousand dollars for information leading to the arrest of each convict. Microsoft has released an urgent warning to Internet Explorer browser users. They_re urging them to download a security patch to protect from a dangerous new bug. A security flaw in Explorer_s software has been exposed that can allow hackers to remotely control infected PC_s. The free security software can be downloaded from Microsoft_s website, and is called the Enhanced Mitigation Experience Toolkit. The company says it should protect users until an updated version of Internet Explorer is released. I_ll just say that I_m glad I switched over to Google Chrome a few months ago. The rebels also say that they_ve captured 4 tanks while destroying 2 more. Aleppo, with a population of 2-point-5 million people, has seen a mass exodus n hundreds of thousands of civilians have fled the city in the wake of the recent violence. It was a case of lights out in India after a massive power failure left hundreds of millions without electricity. Guest anchor Marina has been following this story and joins us now with today_s news bulletin, Marina.Thank you Eila. It appears that a massive grid failure is responsible for plunging Northern India into darkness. It_s estimated that over 300 MILLION Indians have been left without any power at all, throwing Dehli_s surrounding areas into chaos since about 2am local time. Residents have to fend for themselves in sweltering heat, no train service for the morning commute, and no traffic lights. Although power outages are common in India, this is the worst one since 2001.Elsewhere in the world, North Korea is once again ratteling their sabres by upping their anti-US and South Korean rhetoric. They_re now threatening tough action against each country, claiming they_re both ploting to send spies into the North as well as to blow up statues of their founding leader Kim Il-Sung. That plot, they say, amounts to an act of war. This comes on the heels of the arrest of a man who claims that South Korean intelligence offered him rich rewards for taking down the statues. So basically it_s the same old story over there Eila. Yeah no kidding. Global markets have reacted favorably to the news.But Greece wasnit the only country holding elections. Citizens were back at the polls in Egypt and France. NO) Eila, in Egypt the Muslim Brotherhoodis Mohamed Morsi (moh-HAH-mehd MOOR-see) has declared victory in that countries presidential election. But his opponent Ahmed Shafik (AH-mehd shah-FEEK) n who was Prime Minister under Hosni Mubarakis (HOHS-nee moo-BAH-rahk) regime n has refused to concede. Shafik claims there are still many votes to be counted, and he likes his odds in districts where heis considered to be a strong candidate, including parts of Cairo. Meanwhile, the ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces issued a decree that essentially makes the title of President meaningless.And in France, voters gave newly elected President Francois Hollandeis (frahn-SWAH oh-LAHND) Socialist Party an absolute majority in Parliament. It appears that the Socialists will have at least 313 of the 577 seats. This is a huge boost for Hollande because the results indicate there is widespread support for his anti austerity proposals Eila. EA) So, whatis next for the Socialist party Nat?NO) Well, theyire planning on hiring 60-thousand new teachers, putting off balancing their budget, and raising income taxes.EA) France is definitely bucking the trend but I have a feeling they won_t be the last country to reject sever belt tightening. His lawyers had asked the court to delay proceedings for 6 months. They claim the presiding judge is biased based on other trials of Serbians. They also claim that the prosecutors failed to provide their evidence in a timely manner. But their complaints fell on deaf ears.2. EA) Elsewhere in Europe, Greeks will be heading to the polls yet again. Politicians there failed to come to an agreement about forming a government. This comes nine days after the parliamentary elections split support between backers and opponents of controversial austerity measures and the 165-billion dollar economic bailout.RW) There_s no date for the new vote, but guidelines suggest it will happen sometime in mid-June. Early polls indicate that the leftist, anti-bailout Syriza (SIH-reez-ah) party will win. In the meantime, a caretaker government has been formed to keep the country running until new leaders are chosen.3. EA) In other news, Chinese activist Chen Guangcheng (CHUHN GWAHNG CHUHNG) has contacted the US Congress a second time. He_s asking to be relocated to the States because the Chinese government is harassing him and his family. He_s accusing Chinese police of bringing murder charges against his nephew that he says are trumped upRW) While the US State Department says that the blind dissadent_s visas are ready, Chen has told reporters that no progress has been made on his passport requests. He made headlines last month after he escaped house arrest, somehow made his way to Beijing, and then found asylum in the US Embassy for 6 days.
