Hello and welcome to Naked News, I_m KC. We_re all set for Sports, a media update and Erica_s Boob-Tube. But to start things off we_ll dive right into today_s biggest stories. And for that we_ll head on over to the naked newsroom with MV and PP. What_s goin on ladies? Good news for a change, Kat. It appears that a cease-fire has been negotiated between Israel and Hamas.The question now becomes n will it last, and if not, how long until hostilities resume?Here_s the latest.The cease-fire was announced by Egypt_s foreign minister in Cairo. He was joined by US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who joined negotiations earlier in the day. According to Clinton, in order for the cease-fire to hold, Hamas must put an end to the rocket attacks against Israel coming from Gaza.It was those attacks that prompted Israel_s retaliation, which in turn killed Hamas_s military leader. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu released a statement, saying that after consulting with US President Barack Obama, they had agreed to the truce. Since the fighting began last week, close to 160 people have been killed. Shortly before the deal was reached, however, a bus bombing in the Israeli city of Tel Aviv injured at least 24 people. A spokesperson for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu tweeted that the bombing was being treated as a terrorist attack. The bus in question was passing military headquarters at the time.Hamas had claimed responsibility for the bombing, calling it a natural responsei to Israeli attacks in Gaza. There had also been reports that Israel launched strikes on a soccer stadium in Gaza, while Hamas was continuing to fire rockets into Israel. Hopefully that_s all over and done with now. The only surviving gunman from the 2008 terror attacks in Mumbai has been executed. Mohammad Ajmal Kasab a Pakistani national n was one of 10 gunmen who carved a path of violence through the city, killing 166 people. Kasab_s last minute mercy plea to India_s President was rejected.This marks the first time since 2004 that a sentence for capital punishment has been carried out in India. Victims of the 2008 rampage n which lasted 3 days n included foreigners, wealthy businesspeople, and poverty-stricken commuters. Kasab was videotaped in a train station where 58 people were killed, carrying an AK47. He had claimed to investigators that his father encouraged him to carry out the attacks.It should be mentioned, Peyton, that his father denied those claims.It_s kind of hard to take anything someone like Kasab says at face value.We_ll be back with more news shortly, in the meantime Kat, we_ll send it over to you.

Hague says the U.S. is in a unique position in the ongoing Gaza conflict, due to its crucial leverage with Israel. And with tension in the region at its highest point in years, he feels this may be the last chance for any form of resolution. Egyptian president Mohammed Morsi continues to face violent protests over his decision to take over the nation_s court system. Although Morsi became the country_s first democratically-elected leader back in June, critics say this recent decree of executive power is giving him near dictator-like powers. In a surprise move, Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak has announced he_ll quit politics come January. The high-profile leader - who once served as the country_s prime minister - says he made the decision to spend more time with his family, and to give the government a much-needed change in power. And Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff has fired a number of senior officials over allegations of fraud and influence peddling. The move comes after six high-level employees were arrested last Friday for allegedly selling government permits to businesses in exchange for bribes. Since taking office last year, Rousseff has been steadily cracking down on corruption in Brazil_s public sector. Back to you, Laura.

I_m Victoria Sinclair, thanks for joining us here at Naked News. All eyes are on the Middle East, as the violence between Israel and Hamas militants continues. Israel carried out 80 strikes in the Gaza strip on Monday alone. Now, US Secretary of State Hilary Clinton is heading to the region to try and diffuse the situation. With the latest developments and other news, here_s Erica Stevens. Late Tuesday Vic, Hillary Clinton will leave Cambodia - which she had been visiting with US President Barack Obama - and head to the Middle East to try and push for a truce between Israel and the Palestinians. Clinton will meet with leaders from both sides, beginning with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem. Pressure from the international community is also mounting. In Cairo, UN Chief Ban Ki-Moon has called for an immediate ceasefire.While there IS hope that a peace deal can soon be reached, the US Navy isn_t taking any chances. Three amphibious warships are on route to the eastern Mediterranean. The USS Iwo Jima, USS New York, and USS Gunston Hall will be on standby in case an American evacuation of Israel takes place. The White House has stressed that the move is strictly precautionary. For the time being, American citizens who want to leave the region are advised to do so via commercial airline. Meanwhile, US President Barack Obama is wrapping up the third and final leg of his tour through Asia. As I said earlier, the President was in Cambodia on Tuesday for the East Asia Summit. He met with Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and primarily discussed trade issues. Obama also told the Premier that the US and China should establish clear rules of the road when it comes to international trade. The goal of the tour was to strengthen US political and economic ties in the region, and it appears to have been a success. We_ll be right back.

Welcome to Naked News, I_m Victoria Sinclair. We_ll begin in the Middle East, and more specifically, the West Bank city of Ramallah. On Monday, investigators exhumed the remains of iconic Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat. French, Russian, and Swiss experts will look over the samples for signs that he was poisoned. Arafat died in Paris in 2004. At the time, official medical records stated that he suffered a stroke. But a murder inquiry was sparked in August, when independent researchers found traces of radioactive polonium-2-10 on his personal effects. It could be months before analysts reach a definitive answer. After days of unrest in the streets of Cairo, it appears Egyptian leaders have reached a compromise over last week_s controversial decree from President Mohammed Morsi. The move had been viewed by many Egyptians and international observers as a blatant power grab. Erica Stevens joins us now with details of this latest agreement. Erica?Vic, Morsi has backed off of his decree for self-appointed sweeping powers. After a meeting with Egyptian judiciary members, Morsi will now only control rulings on sovereign decisions, such as declarations of war. But he will NOT have the type of dictatorial powers that many feared when he first made his announcement last Thursday. It was hoped the agreement would assuage Egyptian protesters, but there is still plenty of unrest and violence in Cairo_s streets. Vic, many of Egypts citizens still feel their President has betrayed democracy. It feels like 2011 all over again, Erica. So what has to happen for things to calm down? I think Morsi will have to completely drop his new decree before things return to normal. And all this just a year-and-half after a so-called revolution. But let_s move to Europe for a sec Erica, I hear there_s been a major agreement on Greece_s financial future? That_s right Vic. Following negotiations in Brussels, IMF and Eurozone finance ministers have given the green light on another round of bailouts to the debt-ridden country. But it came at a price Greece agreed to reduce it_s debts by 51 billion dollars. In exchange, Greece will receive nearly 57 billion dollars in the next round of loans. The influx of money means the government will be able to pay wages and pensions in December. Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras is thrilled with the deal, saying quote a new day begins for all Greeks. Back to you Vic. Sounds like positive progress, thanks Erica. We_ll begin today in the South Pacific, where Typhoon Bopha has ravaged the Philippines, leaving at least 230 people dead and hundreds more missing. Katherine Curtis joins me now, and Kat, what can you tell us about the strength of the storm? Vic, according to the latest reports, Bopha had winds up to 110 miles per hour at its most powerful, leading to widespread power outages and washed out roads. Which areas were hardest hit exactly? Primarily the southern island of Mindanao where tens of thousands of people were left homeless. It_s a coastal area that was devastated by landslides and flash flooding. Rescue crews certainly have their hands full. I_ll leave it to you for the rest of the story. Thanks Vic and welcome to the newsroom everyone. The island nation is reporting extensive destruction including entire villages being wiped out. Also hard hit was the country_s agriculture industry with some estimates that up to 80 percent of plantations have been destroyed. Infrastructure was also severely hit, everything from bridges to airports to school buildings. Search and rescue operations are underway, while tens of thousands of residents have been forced into emergency shelters. Local governments are appealing to the international community for clothing, supplies, and other humanitarian aid. In other news, ongoing protests in Egypt forced President Mohammed Morsi to temporarily flee his palace in Cairo. With what some are calling the most significant crisis in his six-month tenure, Morsi continues to face violent opposition to his government_s increasing executive and judicial authority. Roughly 10 thousand protestors clashed with security officers, some managing to break through barbed wire barricades surrounding the presidential palace. Although Morsi returned to the building on Wednesday, further demonstrations are planned throughout the week.Fugitive millionaire John McAfee has fled Belize to Guatemala in the hope of seeking political asylum. The 67-year-old, who founded the anti-virus software company that bears his name, says the move was necessary to ensure he can receive fair, unbiased treatment. EIla Adams has been following this rather bizarre story.. and is here now with more details. How much more weird can this one get Eila.It_s got all the ingredients for a movie of the week, that_s for sure. Firstly, some backstory. McAfee MAC-uh-fee was deemed a person of interest in last month_s murder of Florida businessman Gregory Faull, his longtime neighbour in Belize. The two men reportedly had a long history of personal conflict. After Faul was shot and killed, Mt into hiding, proclaiming his innocence and accusing the Belize government of conducting a high-profile witch-hunt. McAfee says his lawyer will petition the nation_s government to allow him an extended residency. Some high stakes to be sure. Any sense on how McAfee managed to escape Belize without being spotted? It turns out he underwent an extreme makeover of sorts, dying his hair and beard, and even sticking chewing gum inside his mouth to change the shape of his face. Welcome to naked news. Escalating violence between Israel and Hamas in Gaza has sparked fears of an outbreak of full-scale war. On Wednesday, three Israelis were killed when a rocket fired from Gaza hit a four-storey residential building. Israel has responded with a vicious assault on 100 suspected rocket launch sites in Gaza. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu sounded alarm bells by acknowledging that an Israeli ground offensive is an option if necessary. The UN Security Council held an emergency session late Wednesday, where officials called for maximum restraint. Over to Asia now where China_s government has finally made its long-awaited transition of power. Xi Jinping is now officially the face of Chinese leadership. Peyton Priestly joins us with the story. Vic, after a decade of unprecedented economic growth, Chinese President Hu Jintao (WHO jin-TOW) handed the torch to Xi Jinping (SHE JIN PING) as the new head of the Chinese Communist Party. Following a ceremony in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, Mr. Xi and the six other members of China_s Standing Committee pledged to make China even stronger than it is today. The new leadership will gradually take control over the next few months Vic,with Hu Jintao_s presidency formally ending next March.It_s a very interesting peak into their somewhat secretive regime Peyton. Now I understand that standing Committee you spoke about was cut down from 9 to 7 members. Is there any sort of significance to that? There is actually. For one, it should make it easier for the government to reach concensus on important decisions. And unlike China_s last two presidents, Xi Jinping will also have control of the military. Many observers are calling it a major consolidation of power.It_s certainly the dawn of a new era, and let_s hope it_s for the better. Now you_ve also been tracking a positive development over in Myanmar, What_s happening over there? That_s right Vic, just days before a historic visit from US President Barack Obama, Myanmar_s (me-AHN-mar) government has released 452 prisoners under amnesty as a gesture of good will. The move is a sign of the many democratic reforms taking effect over there since the country_s current administration took office in 2010. Many of those being released were political prisoners or foreign nationals. Myanmar_s adoption of democratic policies has led to the loosening of sanctions from the international community. During his visit, President Obama will meet with Myanmar President Thein Sein and activist icon Aung San Suu Kyi. Back to you Vic. Thanks Peyton. This is your News off The TopOur top story today takes us to the southern US, where a severe weather system has left a trail of destruction across Georgia and Tennessee. At least 8 tornadoes touched down in Tennessee, turning over cars and downing power lines. Meanwhile, Georgia governor Nathan Deal has declared a state of emergency and issued a mandatory curfew to keep residents safe. The unusual weather system is being blamed on warm winds from the south colliding with colder air from Canada. An already tense situation between Israel and Syria became that much more volatile on Thursday. Israeli warplanes bombed a Syrian convoy suspected of smuggling weapons into Lebanon. With more details on the attack, and its potential repercussions, we_ll turn to Katherine Curtis.KC) Vic, according to US officials, the airstrike hit a Syrian convoy that was allegedly carrying Russian-made missile parts to Hezbollah - Israel_s biggest enemy - in Lebanon. However, Lebanon_s state-run news agency says the reports are sheer rumours, and Hezbollah issued a statement calling the attack barbaric. Meanwhile, Syria claims that a separate Israeli airstrike was carried out on one of its research facilities near Damascus, killing two people. KC) So far, Vic, Israeli military and government officials have declined comment.VS) With all these conflicting reports, the details are hazy at best. But we do know that Syria has sent weapons to Hezbollah in the past.KC) That_s right and Israeli intelligence believes that Hezbollah is trying to round up as many weapons as it can from Syria, in case President Bashar al Assad is forced from office. VS) And with Syria_s massive stockpile of chemical weapons, that_s got to be a major concern for Israel. Thanks for the report, Kat.VS) In other news, the United Nations Human Rights Council isn_t mincing words over Israel_s treatment of Palestinians. In a newly-released report, the organization is demanding Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu immediately stop transferring Israeli citizens into several areas, including the West Bank and much of the Golan Heights. Eila Adams has the story. EA) Vic, according to the report, any Israeli settlement in these regions violates the Fourth Geneva Convention, which prohibits occupying powers from transferring their own population into disputed territories. The council claims these settlements have subjected Palestinians to ongoing violence, destroyed crops, and even loss of property... EA) It_s worth noting, Vic, that the findings were released mere days after Israel chose not to participate in a UN review of its human rights record.VS) Has there been a reaction from the Netanyahu government, Eila?EA) There definitely has, and the response is blunt to say the least. The Israeli foreign ministry says the UN report is one-sided and counterproductive, and an obstacle toward future stability. VS) As complicated as ever, alright Eila thanks for the story.

However, violence has spread nationwide, including severe clashes between protesters and police in downtown Cairo.Although the court_s decision over the soccer riots is a new development, the underlying issue has remained the same for months. KC) Vic, activists believe Morsi is curbing personal freedoms to push through his Islamic agenda.VS) With the state of emergency only deepening the conflict, what_s next for the president?KC) That_s the million dollar question. On Monday, Morsi agreed to discuss the crisis, even calling for a national dialogue with several of his opponents. Now with more of today_s news, here_s Eila Adams.EA) Vic, 3 people have been arrested in connection to that devastating nightclub fire in Brazil. The death toll stands at 230 people in the university city of Santa Maria. Although an investigation is still ongoing, it appears a bandis pyrotechnics display is at least partly responsible for the deadly blaze.Israeli officials say theyid consider launching a pre-emptive military strike to prevent Syriais chemical weapons from falling into the wrong hands. With concerns over Syrian President Bashar al Assad losing control over the country, Israel says it must ensure groups like Al Qaeda and Hezbolla are unable to benefit from the political instability. Former US Secretary of State, Henry Kissinger, warns that there could be a nuclear crisis in Iran in the ìforeseeable futurei. The Nobel Peace Prize winner warned that nuclear proliferation in Iran will severely increase the chances of atomic weapons being used in warfare, and that the situation would be, quote, a turning point in human history.

Welcome to Naked News, I_m VS. UN officials say that forces on both sides of Syria_s brutal conflict have agreed to a cease-fire during the Islamic holiday of Eid al-Adha. The government of Bashar al-Assad has tentatively agreed to the deal, as have most opposition factions. The government has said that they will give their final answer later in the week. The UN is looking to use a possible cease-fire to negotiate an even longer halt to the violence in the war-torn country. The holiday - also known as the Festival of the Sacrifice - arrives on October 26th.Recently, oil and gas company Saudi Aramco was subjected to one of the most devastating cyber-attacks on record. Now American officials are pointing the finger at Iran as being the likely culprit. MV has been following the latest developments and joins us now with a full report. What_s going on Marina. Vic, the attack was carried out during an important Islamic holiday, when 55-thousand Saudi Aramco employees stayed home. 3-quarters of the company_s PCs had data erased and replaced with a picture of a burning American flag. US Intelligence officials are now blaming Iran for being behind the attack, and planting false evidence to direct investigators elsewhere. This isn_t the only cyber-attack that the US is blaming on Iran. They also accuse the Middle Eastern nation of being behind recent attacks on US Banks. And in Afghanistan, an elite German Special Forces team has captured a key member of the Taliban. Mullah Abdul Rahman, is believed to be behind suicide attacks on NATO fuel covoys. When he was captured, it_s alleged that he had a classified list of targets that NATO wanted captured. Not surprisingly, Rahman_s name was one of those on the list. He_s accused OF masterminding a fuel hijacking, which resulted in a hundred civilian casualties when the tankers were hit by rockets. And Vic...he also would reportedly order suicide bombers to dress as women in burkas to elude security forces. Hello everyone - I_m Laura Conner, WELCOME to Naked News. We_re on the eve of a mammoth presidential election in the US, and both candidates are doing everything they can to get some last minute votes. Senior anchor Victoria Sinclair has been following the campaigns, and she joins us now for a look at all the last minute running around. Laura, with just one day to go, both President Obama and Mitt Romney put on a full court press in order to gain votes in swing states. The candidates - and their spouses and running-mates - all have last minute stops in battleground states that include Ohio, Iowa, and Colorado. Both candidates are bringing out the star-power to try and influence voters - Obama will be appearing with Bruce Springsteen and Jay-Z in Ohio, while Romney will be at an event in New Hampshire with Kid Rock.As for who will win, the latest numbers suggest it is literally anybody_s guess. The most recent CNNORC International poll has Obama and Romney in a dead heat, with each getting support from 49-percent of likely voters. Eila Adams has been analyzing some numbers for us. What can you tell us Eila? As you just mentioned Vic, it_s a dead heat and several other recent polls are showing similar results. In most cases no candidate leads the other by more than 3 points. However, respected statistician Nate Silver claims that Obama has an 82-percent chance of winning. Silver gained prominence after the 2008 election, when he correctly predicted the results in 49 out of 50 states.That_s pretty impressive, but I take it not everyone is trusting Silver_s predictions.Well, certainly not anyone on the CONSERVATIVE side of the equation. There are a NUMBER of sites that give a huge edge to Romney.We_ll certainly find out soon enough, thanks EIlaVoters in the storm-ravaged state of New York may get a little extra time to head to the polls. The Board of Elections says that if less than 25 percent of registered voters turn out to the polls, they may extend the voting deadline by an extra 24-hours. Organizers will make their final decision on election day. Meanwhile, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is urging power companies to make areas with polling stations a priority when it comes to restoring electricity. This comes on the heels of an announcement in New Jersey which allows residents to email their vote in if they can_t get to a polling station. We_ll have more news shortly, back to you, Laura.
