The government says it_s a simple matter of security, and that the ruling also applies to masked protesters. If pictures are worth a thousand words, pictures of flooding are certainly enough to leave you speechless. Obviously, destroyed buildings are very hard to look at, but nothing makes the situation clearer than watching virtual rivers running through the streets of a major city. And the footage coming out of downtown Miami is unbelievable That_s hard to look at, but also very hard not to look at It_s crazy to see the pretty downtown Brickell neighborhood so devastated, but at least we can be grateful not to have seen people in those shots Of course, before any recovery can really begin, there are serious infrastructure issues to deal with. Specifically, Florida_s going to need its power back According to Governor Rick Scott_s office, nearly 6 MILLION customers are currently without power. On top of that, FEMA administrator Brock Long has already said that several places will be without electricity for WEEKS Given that power lines are reportedly down in 80 percent of Miami ALONE, even that seems optimistic In order to begin the recovery, Miami-Dade_s Mayor has issued a curfew. Except for official personnel, including Florida Power & Light employees, the county curfew will run nightly from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Some cities within Miami-Dade County are going with even stricter curfews than that, with Miami Beach saying people will not be allowed onto the island before noon on Tuesday. Normally, I_m against any kind of curfew... but in these unique circumstances, I think I_ll give the government a pass We_ll be right back.

That said, it was their worst result in over sixty years. The anti-immigrant nationalist party, Alternative for Germany, managed a third place finish. It seems like Uber may soon be driven out of London The government agency Transport for London has announced that it won_t be renewing its operating licence when it expires at the end of September. In explaining the decision, Transport for London cited a, quote, lack of corporate responsibility. Uber will be appealing the ruling and can continue to operate until all appeal processes have been exhausted. And after Donald Trump said that NFL owners should fire players who kneel during the anthem, the response was overwhelming... AGAINST HIM Commissioner Roger Goodell wrote Divisive comments like these demonstrate an unfortunate lack of respect for the NFL. Team after team released statements supporting their players. And protests became much wider spread, with Pittsburgh, Seattle and Tennessee opting to skip the anthems altogether We certainly haven_t heard the end of this. A pessimist would say the cinders of the fire that burned SEVEN THOUSAND ACRES of land this weekend could easily reignite. And the Los Angeles Fire Chief is saying a bit of both Fire operations will be continuing for some time, but the good news is that containment is rising and most evacuees have been able to return home Is it any wonder we love firemen? Of course, we know the effects of a natural disaster last far longer than the disaster itself. And if we forgot, Texas Governor Greg Abbott reminded us In a weekend interview, he estimated that recovery costs for the state in the wake of Hurricane Harvey will likely hit 180 BILLION dollars So far, the White House has asked Congress for a little under 8 billion, but Governor Abbott has framed that as a down-payment. Whitney, he also pointed out that over FIVE MILLION people were directly affected by Harvey, making it even bigger than KatrinaAnd now we have Irma on our doorstep. Hospitals are running low on medicine and fuel and safe running water is hard to find. The Department of Homeland Security says it_s doing everything it can to improve the situation. 17-thousand responders are on hand to help, but three weeks in it appears their work is just getting started. OJ might be out of prison, but the juice is far from loose in 2017 Florida orange growers just had their worst season in nearly 75 years Hurricane Irma destroyed September crops just weeks away from harvest. As a result, Florida groves produced just 31 million boxes of oranges - the lowest total since 1942 Lawmakers in the sunshine state are proposing a 2.5 billion dollar agriculture relief fund to help things get back on track. If not, consumers might have to look elsewhere for their oranges. Either way I think you can expect a hefty price hike on OJ in your local grocery aisle And the art world is all in a tizzy over what should be an historic auction next month That_s when Leonardo Da Vinci_s Salvator Mundi painting will go under the hammer at Christie_s in New York. It_s being called the Holy Grail of Old Master paintings The restored work dates back to the year 1500, and is one of less than twenty known paintings by Leonardo. It_s also the only painting of his that_s still in private hands. When it last went up for sale in 1958, it sold for around a hundred dollars. Its value has appreciated a TINY bit since then. On November 15th it_s expected to fetch upwards of one hundred MILLION Don_t go away.

As if Hurricanes H and I weren_t enough, now we have to worry about J and K First, there_s Hurricane Jose, which looks like it could be hitting the Leeward Islands, still reeling from Hurricane Irma Then there_s Hurricane Katia, bearing down on the Gulf Coast of Mexico As of Thursday morning, it was a Category 1 but could gain strength by the time it hits land This is the first time there_ve been three hurricanes in the Atlantic at the same time since 2010, and here_s hoping it_s the last The laws of supply and demand aren_t going anywhere, but price gouging in the wake of a disaster is never cool And while price gouging on some items is prohibited by law, Floridians are finding out that airline tickets aren_t covered With many wanting to get out of town and swallowing up the cheap tickets, prices soared, and online outrage followed. Thankfully, the airlines noticed, and many, such as JetBlue, American, and Delta started capping their fares Better late than neverMeanwhile in Texas, the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey continues to unfold. There are of course countless problems that come with massive flooding, but one of them is quickly becoming apparent: the rise of the mosquitoes, millions upon millions of them As the CDC has pointed out, mosquito populations typically explode after flooding, and while most will be so-called nuisance mosquitoes, some will be disease spreaders So long sleeves and bug spray, everyone We_ll be right back.

So what makes this guy stand out?The lowlife was getting girls to send nudes by making awful threats against their families It_s a pretty disturbing story. Topping our news today, the FBI has charged an American named Buster Hernandez as the man behind an online cyber campaign that terrorized young women. Using the Facebook name of Brian Kil, Hernandez would message girls demanding explicit photos, threatening to kill their family members or blow up their schools if they didn_t comply. Hernandez was able to remain anonymous online for years by using programs that hid his IP address. The FBI finally tracked him down by tricking him into watching a video containing a virus that tracked his address. If convicted he_ll face a minimum of 15 years behind bars Mexican soccer legend Rafael Marquez Alvarez is one of 22 people being sanctioned by the US Treasury Department for ties to drug trafficking Marquez is captain of the Mexican national team, and previously played for soccer powerhouse Barcelona, as well as the New York Red Bulls. He_s accused of helping launder money for notorious drug kingpin Raul Flores Hernandez. The feds are also sanctioning 43 entities south of the border, including a soccer team and a casino. The sanctions freeze all US assets and ban American citizens from doing business with them. There_s no shortage of Bad Blood between Taylor Swift and former Colorado radio DJ David Mueller Swift is suing Mueller for inappropriately touching her during a photo session before a Denver concert in 2013. The pop princess is only suing for 1 dollar. She says she doesn_t want his money, she wants him to serve as an example for other women who_ve been assaulted Swift claims Mueller groped her backside during the photo op. When her team brought the accusation to his bosses, he launched a countersuit worth millions The trial is ongoing, and Swift_s expected to testify. Thousands of National Guard members have been called in, and FEMA is openly asking for any able-bodied citizens to assist in rescue efforts. President Trump will visit Texas on Tuesday to get a first-hand look at the situation, and ensure that government agencies have the resources they need to keep everyone safe. An engineer who helped develop a device that allowed Volkswagen to lie about vehicle emissions is going to jail 63-year old James Liang is the first person to be prosecuted in the global scandal. The US District Court judge wanted to send a message to the auto industry and gave him an unexpectedly harsh sentence. Liang will do more than three years in prison and face a 200-thousand dollar fine VW_s admitted to installing software in its vehicles that deceived environmental regulators about diesel emissions. The scandal has already cost the automaker 25 billion dollars in the US. And the heir to the Samsung Electronics has been convicted of bribery Samsung chairman Jay Y. Lee has been hit with a five-year prison term. It_s a case that_s gripped South Korea, a country dominated by powerful family-run conglomerates. Lee was arrested in February on allegations that he_d bribed then-South Korean president Park Geun-Hye in exchange for help securing control of Samsung. This includes the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, more commonly known as _food stamps._ In their report, Newsweek says millions of needy Americans will be pushed out of the program, in a country where one in six people faces hunger Even when Mark Zuckerberg tries to do the right thing, he often seems just a little bit off. Cedar Bayou, Texas has recorded an incredible 51-POINT-8-8 INCHES of rain due to Hurricane Harvey That_s not just a record for Texas, but for the entire continental U.S. And if you haven_t done the math, that_s OVER FOUR FEET As the National Weather Service pointed out in a tweet, so much rain has fallen, they actually had to change their color charts just to properly indicate it Wherever there_s people in trouble, there_ll be people trying to take advantage The Texas attorney general_s office has reportedly received hundreds of complaints about price gouging Stories include a store charging a HUNDRED DOLLARS for a case of water, and some gas stations charging as much as TEN DOLLARS per gallon Of course, under Texas law, price gougers can face twenty thousand dollar fines, which can rise to a QUARTER OF A MILLION if the victim_s a senior citizen And a sociology professor from the University of Tampa has been FIRED after blaming the GOP for the disaster. He tweeted, I don_t believe in instant karma but this kinda feels like it for Texas. Hopefully this will help them realize the GOP doesn_t care about them. Meanwhile, Ann Coulter tweeted I don_t believe Hurricane Harvey is God_s punishment for Houston electing a lesbian mayor. But that is more credible than climate change. Overall, the news network has a 7 point edge over the Commander-in-Chief. CNN wins this round, but I_m betting the fight_s far from over A US federal judge has told Martin Shkreli something we_ve ALL wanted to say to him for months: SHUT. UP The infamous Pharma Bro is on trial for securities fraud and he can_t stop blabbing about it Shkreli_s been ordered to stop talking about the trial to the press or posting things online. He_s been banned from Twitter for months, but is suspected of using an anonymous account to riff on the trial. The judge says Martin craves attention and is trying to make a spectacle of himself. If there_s one thing the Internet_s taught me, it_s to never feed the trolls The ice bucket challenge raised more than 220 million dollars for ALS research when it went viral in 2014. Now, that money is being used to help treat the man who started it all 32-year old Peter Frates has been admitted to a Massachusetts hospital in his battle with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig_s disease. His medical bills cost up to 90-thousand a month, and his family can_t afford it. But he couldn_t stop being a bro In fact, Shkreli recently posted a five thousand dollar bounty for a strand of Hillary Clinton_s hair on Facebook That naturally led to a Secret Service investigation and a judge ordered the Pharma Bro jailed, ruling he posed a danger to the public. The judge also noted that a solicitation of assault in exchange for money is NOT protected speech But don_t worry, folks, I_m sure Shkreli will do just fine in prison The impact of Hurricane Irma will continue to land most squarely on Florida, but the ripple effect will touch us all. For instance, Florida_s citrus industry has been particularly devastated. According to officials, it_s estimated that there_s a 50 to 70 percent crop loss in South Florida. That_s terrible for the farmers, plus given that Florida routinely grows about half of America_s orange juice, I think we all might feel freshly squeezed for awhile.
