(sarcastic) You know, the kind of thing youid where in a place where temperatures regularly top 105 degrees Fahrenheit? A 23-year old woman there has begun a campaign to get foreigners to dress more conservatively under the Twitter hashtag UAEdresscode. And donit think itis just women. The campaign also targets men deemed to be wearing clothing thatis too tight fitting. The campaign wants to warn foreigners to cover up and ultimately block them from entering public spaces like shopping malls if they donit. Meanwhile just down the desert highway in Dubai, a highly-paid talent recruiter was arrested and subsequently FIRED from her 150 thousand dollar a year job after being caught having sex in the back of a cab 29-year old Brit, Rebecca Blake, says she doesnit remember a thing, but admits sheid been drinking for ten hours before hailing the cab with a male friend. The driver saw what was happening in his rearview and pulled over to tell police. Blake was then arrested and thrown in a holding cell for five days. She_s now facing charges for having sex outside of marriage and being drunk in a public place, both criminal offences in the strict islamic state. She faces up to 3 years in jail.Weill wrap up this first look at the news stateside, where a popular Boston-area coffee chain has been put under the microscope for hiring too many attractive young women Federal authorities are investigating Marylouis Coffee for employment discrimination. According to the Boston Herald, the feds have been investigating the chainis employment practices for more than a year now. The companyis owners say theyive been in business 25 years with no complaints and claim their the victims of a witch hunt. The quake hit just 3 days after Japan marked the one-year anniversary of the fatal 9-point-oh magnitude tremor and sweeping tsunami that led to the Fukushima nuclear crisis - a situation that is still far from over. WSJ) Elsewhere on the international scene, US Defense Secretary Leon Panetta (pan-NET-uh) has arrived for a very important visit in Afghanistan. He_s there hoping to ease tempers over the shocking shooting rampage by a US soldier as well as the recent burning of Korans by NATO troops. With more on the very delicate situation there we_ll turn things over to Peyton Priestly. What_s the latest Peyton? PP) Whitney, Panetta is scheduled to meet with local tribal leaders and Afghan officials during his two-day visit. The killing spree by that US soldier has led to violent threats from the Taliban, and outrage from Afghan president Hamid Karzai. (ha-MID kar-ZY), He called the Sunday shooting spree acts of terror and unforgivable. Panetta is the first high-ranking American official to visit Afghanistan since the incident. PP) Meanwhile back in the US, President Barack Obama has been playing host to a very high-profile visitor of his own British Prime Minister David Cameron is stateside for a visit that will see him sit down with the President for discussion on topics ranging from Afghanistan to the upcoming NATO summit. But that doesn_t mean there isn_t time for a little fun WHitney The pair spent some time at the opening game of the NCAA March Madness basketball tournament in Ohio on Tuesday night, back to you. Making headlines today, American health officials say the current outbreak of the West Nile Virus is one of the worst on record According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there have been over 11-hundred cases reported so far this year. The norm is under 300. 41 fatalities have been reported with half of them in Texas. It_s gotten so bad in Dallas that aerial insecticide spraying has begun. West Nile is spread to humans via mosquitoes who have previously bitten infected birds. It should be noted that only 20 percent of people infected with the virus get sick, and only 1 in 150 develop serious symptoms.Elsewhere in the world, more and more countries are sounding off on what they should do about the situation in Syria. Even if it means ruffeling the feathers of 2 superpowers who seem to have Syria_s back. For more on this story I_ll send you over to Rachelle Wilde with a naked news bulletin. Vic, the UK is the latest country to warn Syria against using chemical and biological weapons against rebel forces. Syria has hinted that they have the weapons and are not afraid to use them. But after talking with US President Barack Obama, UK Prime Minister David Cameron has warned Syria to revisit their approach. Cameron has also discussed the issue with French President Francois.The three leaders have reportedly discussed ways to support the Syrian rebels, as well as ways to assist a transitional government after what they call the inevitable fall of Bashar al-Assad_s regime. But the concern isn_t universal - China is accusing Obama of using the chemical weapons issue as an excuse to intervene with military forces. Russia has voiced opposition to intervention as well. Vic, both Russia AND China have also blocked attempts by the UN to impose serious sanctions on Syria.That_s not really a surprise though, is it?Not at all. Neither China nor Russia have the best track record when it comes to human rights.Exactly, and unfortunately that_s not changing anytime soon. thanks for the story Rachelle. In other news, Wildfires continue to wreak havoc in the US, particularly in California. A 33-square-mile blaze in Northern California has destroyed at least 50 buildings near the town of Manton. The fire - which was sparked by a lightning strike - continues to threaten hundreds of homes in the region. California Governor Jerry Brown has called in the National Guard to help the 2000 firefighters battling the blaze - nicknamed the Ponderosa Fire. Despite their best efforts, officials expect the wildfire will claim many more buildings before it_s contained. The Ponderosa Fire is just one of at least 36 major fires tearing through the western United States. We_ll be right back.

(an-GAY-lah MAIR-kul) Now to some breaking news in the News of the World phone hacking scandal. London_s Metropolitan Police have charged Former News International chief executive Rebekah Brooks and her husband Charlie with perverting the course of justice. With the latest on the scandal in London, we_ll turn things over to Natasha Olenski. NO) Vic, the former head of Rupert Murdoch_s newspaper empire is accused of concealing evidence from Scotland Yard detectives, including sensitive documents, computers, and other electronic data. Along with Brooks and her husband, four others have also been charged. They include Mrs. Brooks personal assistant, chauffeur, and News International_s head of security. The six accused are the first to face formal charges since the police investigations began last year. Brooks and her husband have released an official statement Vic, saying they quote deplore the weak and unjust decision. Back to you. We_ll wrap up this first look at the news with the European Union naval forces who_ve taken the fight against Somali pirates to the air. On Tuesday, helicopter and aircraft strikes off Somalia_s central coastline targeted pirate speed boats, fuel depots, and weaponry, marking the first air attacks against pirate targets on shore. No injuries or deaths were reported in the assault. The EU has been the biggest contributor to Somalia_s transitional government, and has provided government troops with funding, training and supplies to combat the problem. The headlines continue a little later but right now Erica Stevens joins us with a sneak peak at what else we_ve got coming up. RW) Hello, and welcome to Naked News, I_m RW - here_s what_s making headlinesEgypt_s first ever democratically-elected President-elect - Mohammed Mursi of the Muslim Brotherhood - is urging the people of his troubled country to unite. He was declared the winner of last week_s run-off, over former Prime Minister Ahmed Shafiq (AH-mehd shah-FEEK), with just under 52-percent of the vote. Mursi gave a televised address where he gave thanks to the protesters who triggered the ouster of former leader Hosni Mubarak (HOHS-nee moo-BAH-rahk). His election was hailed by leaders around the world. We move now to Syria and Turkey, where tensions are escalating between the 2 countries after Syria was accussed of shooting down a Turkish fighter jet on Friday. Guest anchor Laura has been monitoring this developing story and jpins us now with the latest. What_s going on Laura?LE) Rachelle, Turkey has called on NATO to hold talks regarding the shooting down of a Turkish warplane by Syrian forces. Turkey insists that the F4 Phantom was in international airspace when it was shot down. Syria claims that the jet was in Syrian airspace and that they had no idea it was Turkish. They also say they dispatched their navy immediately to help rescue the crew members. But that_s not appeasing Turkey or their NATO allies, who condemned the act. Turkey has invoked Article 4 of NATO_s charter, which says they can consult with their allies if their security is being threatened.But that_s not the only source of tension between the two nations.At least 30 Syrian military figures have reportedly defected into Turkey. According to reports, a general, 2 colonels (KUR-nuls), and dozens more were part of a group of around 200 people who crossed the border into Turkey. They join over 33-thousand refugees that have fled into Turkey since the Syrian uprising began last year. There have been a small but steady stream of defections by the military, but this marks the most at any one time. Turkey has always openly supported Syrian defectors Rachelle.RW) A general defecting is pretty substantial but he wasn_t the first was he? LE) As a matter of fact he wasn_t. The Turks claim that about a dozen generals have defected to date. RW) And after this incident with the Turkish jet, I bet there_s a steady stream of defections in the days and weeks to come. VS) Hereis the story.1. VS) Of course we_re talking about former Liberian president Charles Taylor. He was just sentenced to 50 years in prison for war crimes. An international court in The Hague (HAY-g) handed down the sentence following last monthis conviction of Taylor for war crimes. The court found that he had aided rebels in neighbouring Sierra Leone as they carried out a heinous campaign of terror.ES) In exchange for his help, Taylor received a ìsteady flowi of blood diamonds. The 64-year-old plans on appealing the 50-year sentence. Taylor says that he sees himself not as a war criminal, but a victim, and that he never stood a chance. Heis the first former head of state to be convicted of war crimes since World War 2.2. VS) Next up, a bizarre story is unfolding in Canada involving human remains. Police are looking for connections between several grisly discoveries. A package containing what seems to be a human foot was mailed to the offices of the ruling Conservative party in Ottawa. Meanwhile in Montreal, a janitor found human remains behind an apartment building n but not an entire body.ES) Police have also confirmed another body part was discovered at an Ottawa mail facility, but have remained tight-lipped on the details. Authorities say that itis too soon to link the incidents to each other. Ottawais major crimes unit is contacting other police departments for missing persons reports, or reports of similar crimes.3. VS) US Defense Secretary Leon Panetta is stressing the importance of having a strong naval presence in Asia. Panetta made the remarks while speaking at the US naval academy in Annapolis, Maryland, just ahead of a visit to Asia for a security summit. He told the graduates that the US needs to strengthen ties with their allies in the region.ES) Panetta also mentioned China and their growing military, noting that America needs to be strong and vigilant in order to confront any challenge. However, he also said that they should be cooperating with China in order to ìshare security burdensi. Heill be traveling to China later this year for the first time as defense secretary.VS) Itis also important to keep a close eye on North Korea.ES) Very true. US President Barack Obama spoke to the country in the wake of the horrific shooting spree in an Aurora, Colorado movie theatre that killed 12 people and injured scores more during a midnight screening of The Dark Knight Rises. He met and spoke with survivors and the families of the victims, and later, the visibly moved President had this to say to the press:The alleged gunman - 24-year-old James Holmes - is said to be uncooperative with authorities. Police spent the better part of the weekend attempting to enter his booby-trap riddled apartment. No motive for the killing spree has been given.Another prominent politician to weigh in on the tragedy is New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg. Laura Conner joins us now to tell us what he had to say about Gun Control in the wake of the shooting. Laura?Vic, the mayor is accusing Obama of ignoring the issue of gun control during his first term in office. Bloomberg - a very vocal advocate of strict gun regulations - is calling on both the President and GOP candidate Mitt Romney to address the issue NOW. He_s calling both of them out, saying quote, ...they_ve said things before that they_re in favor of banning things like assault weapons. Where are they now and why don_t they stand up? And if they want our votes, they better.Also, in the wake of the shooting, Warner Brothers and many other studios declined to officially report box office totals for the weekend. Nevertheless, it appears that The Dark Knight Rises still managed to dominate the box office, despite the tragedy. According to anonymous studio sources, the Batman flick managed to take in an estimated 162-million dollars over the weekend. That fell short of expectations of a 190-million dollar opening, but that_s to be expected after such a senseless act of violence Vic.I_m actually surprised anyone went to see it at all considering all the talk of potential copycat shooters. With that in mind Vic, many theatres banned anyone with a mask and beefed up security. Something else to note is that most of the movie goers for the opening weekend bought their tickets well in advance, and I guess they didn_t want to give in to fear. Our top story comes from The Hague, where an alleged war criminal known as the Butcher of Bosnia is mounting his defense from a number of war crime charges. Victoria Sinclair and Erica Stevens join us now with a full report. Ladies?That_s right Eila. Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic has finally gotten a chance to tell his side of the story.After nearly 13 years on the run, Karadzic is facing 10 charges of genocide. This is your News off The Top.Karadzic is primarily standing trial for his role in the Srebenica Massacre - a widescale execution that killed 8-thousand Muslim men during the dissolution of Yugoslavia in the 1990_s. During his first day of defense, Karadzic denied the charges and claimed to be a tolerant man who had only wanted peace.He also said he did everything he could to reduce pain and human suffering during the war. He_s accused the media of exaggerating the number of casualties during the conflict. Authorities finally caught up with Karadzic in 2008, where he had been hiding in plain sight for the last 13 years. If convicted of the charges he could face life behind bars. More now from the fallout of last month_s terrorist attack on the American embassy in Libya. The assault killed a US ambassador and has become a hot topic in the US Presidential election. Republican candidate Mitt Romney has been quick to criticize Barack Obama_s foreign policies. On Monday, Secretary of State Hilary Clinton deflected some of the blame by taking responsibility for the incident. Clinton went on to say that she didn_t want to get into any blame game, and that the focus should now shift to tracking down the terrorists and bringing them to justice. Nevertheless, political experts believe the Benghazi attack will dog the Obama administration for the duration of the campaign. Parliament there has voted unanimously to dissolve itself and hold an early general election next January. That_s almost a year earlier than expected.Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called for early elections last week, mainly because his government was unable to pass a key budget bill, which in turn would have resulted in unpopular spending cuts. Pundits expert a vicious 100-day election campaign, and consider Netanyahu an overwhelming favorite to stay in office. There_s a lot to like about Netanyahu_s leadership. NO) That_s right peyton, it turns out that their brand has even more power with consumers than ANYONE thought. Here_s the breakdown. Welcome to the newsroom everyoneNO) The sales numbers for Apple have exceeded everybodyis highest expectations. Their fiscal second-quarter revenue rose to 39-point-2 billion dollars n much higher than the projected 36-point-8 billion. Hardware was the driving force behind the high revenue numbers. During the quarter, they sold over 5 million more iPhones than estimated, 35-point-1 million in total. They also sold nearly 12-million iPads n which was helped by the release of the new version in March. Appleis stock prices have been decreasing over the past few weeks, but this news helped them jump over 5 percent. A case of Mad Cow disease has been confirmed in a California dairy cow. American officials say the risk to the public is extremely low, since the animal never entered the human food chain, and that consumers donit need to take precautions. But the news is still having an impact overseas. At least one South Korean retailer has removed American beef from their shelves. South Korea is one of the worldis largest importers of US beef, bringing in 125-thousand tons in 2010. Officials there say theyill step up inspections, but so far have stopped short of halting the imports.The first criminal charges have been laid in the Deepwater Horizon oil spill case. Kurt Mix n a former BP drilling engineer n is accused of destroying hundreds of text messages he had sent to a superior. The texts allegedly described the high volumes of oil flowing out of the ruptured well. During the disaster, it was discovered that the numbers BP was providing to the government were drastically lower than the actual volume. If found guilty of the obstruction of justice charges, he_ll face up to 20 years in prison and a 500-thousand dollar fine. And that_s our first look at the news peyton, i_ll send it back to you.
