Well hello, and welcome to Naked News, I_m Victoria Sinclair.Congolese warlord Thomas Lubanga has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for war crimes. He was convicted in March of recruiting, conscripting, and using child soldiers as part of his militia in 2002 and 2003 during bloody conflicts in the Eastern Congo. Prosecutors had been asking for a 30-year sentence for the 51-year-old warlord, but had said they_d settle for 20 if he offered a, quote, genuine apology.With pre-trial custody factored in, Lubanga will only spend another 8 years in prison. While he was actually given 3 sentences of between 12 and 14 years, he_ll serve them concurrently. Lubanga showed no emotion as the sentencing was handed down. Infighting between President Mohammed Morsi and the military may be putting Egypt_s democratic transition at risk. The newly-elected leader is locked in conflict with the nation_s powerful armed forces over whether the legislature should reconvene.A recent Supreme Court ruling helped bring Morsi into power on condition that the Egyptian parliament, which was dominated by his Muslim Brotherhood Party, be dissolved. The standoff caps nearly a year and a half of political strife that eventually resulted in the ousting of longtime leader Hosni Bubarak.Finance ministers in the Eurozone have agreed to let Spain borrow 37-billion dollars to help bail out their troubled banks. This would be the first installment of an earlier bailout agreement of up to 120-billion dollars that they_d already agreed upon last month. It_s not a done deal just yet though. The ministers have to get approval from their individual governments first. It_s still unknown exactly how much will be needed to rescue the Spanish banks. The ministers also agreed to extend a deadline for Spain to slash its budget deficit from 2013 to 2014.
